Everything we do is about Jesus. In him, we find a real and lasting hope for our world, believing that to follow in his footsteps is to experience flourishing and fullness of life. We are a community who journey Toward Jesus, learning and valuing the day-in, day-out practice of discipleship - both in our gatherings as a church and in the scattering back to everyday life.
We are followers of Jesus, (mostly) Māngere Bridge locals and proud members of Te Hāhi Iriiri O Aotearoa (The Baptist Churches of New Zealand)
As a church, we take our shape from the words of the Apostle Peter in 1 Peter 2:4-5:
As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him— you also, like living stones,are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
Peter’s words use the image of a building constructed around Jesus to describe the life of the church. We’ve broken this down into three key areas of focus:
Less a wall of uniform bricks and more a bringing together of stones of different shapes and colours and sizes, we take seriously the calling to be With One Another. Our cultural and generational diversity are precious taonga (treasures). We strive to be a true whānau (family) in which any will be welcome and where we recognise the value of our differences in making us more like Christ together.
Peter uses the Biblical image of priesthood to describe how the church is set apart as a blessing For The World. We love our neighbourhood of Māngere Bridge and, in believing that God has long been at work here, look for signs of the kingdom breaking through; delighting in the call to join in that work in the streets and world around us.
